Drs. Julie Magyar and Cliff Potter
Practice Owners
Drs. Julie Magyar and Cliff Potter have 40 years of combined veterinary service. Both are graduates of the Virginia – Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. This husband and wife team established Riverside Veterinary Clinic in October of 2004 to provide high quality veterinary care to family pets in the New River Valley. Both enjoy all aspects of small animal medicine.
‘The most rewarding part of our job is getting to know our patients and their families.’ Family is very important to the doctors as they are the proud parents of three children. ‘We know how important our pets are to our family and we strive to see that your furry family members always get the most compassionate care.’ Dr. Magyar and Dr. Potter both enjoy hobbies of raising Labrador Retrievers, gardening, and spending time with their children.
Dr. Nancy Currin
Associate Veterinarian
Dr Currin grew up in Virginia and graduated from the Virginia–Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. She has practiced veterinary medicine in the area for twenty plus years and enjoys the beautiful mountains of the New River Valley. Dr Currin enjoys hiking, DIY projects, and especially spending time with her family and fur babies. At home she has dogs, cats, sheep , donkeys, and a horse. Dr Currin’s favorite aspects of veterinary medicine are preventive surgery and the animal-human bond.
Dr. Cara Waddell
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Waddell grew up in Upstate South Carolina, received her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Clemson University, and completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Waddell and her husband fell in the love with the southwestern Virginia area, and she is very excited to be able to serve the New River Valley community and their pets. She enjoys many aspects of small animal medicine but has special interests in preventative care, nutrition, and client education.
Outside of work, Dr. Waddell enjoys spending time with her husband, James, and their dog, Lily and cat, Charlie. She also enjoys crafting, outdoor activities, and sports.
Dr. Brittany Beckner
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Mckenzie Hunt
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Hunt grew up in Fairlawn, Virginia and received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Radford University in 2017. She graduated with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2023 from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Hunt has many interests in veterinary medicine including preventive care, surgery, behavior, and pocket pet care. She is passionate about the human-animal bond and building strong relationships with her clients to provide the best possible quality of life for her patients throughout their lives.
In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family, playing with her dog Bella and cat Sam, crafting, and playing the piano.
Dr. Haley Burger
Associate Veterinarian
Many of our clients may already recognize Dr. Burger, as she has been a valued member of the Riverside Veterinary Clinic family for many years. Her journey with Riverside began while she was a sophomore at Radford University, where she joined our team as a kennel assistant. Through hard work, dedication, and a genuine passion for animal care, she quickly advanced into a treatment role, gaining hands-on experience and developing the skills that would shape her future in veterinary medicine.
After earning her undergraduate degree from Radford University, Dr. Burger continued her education by completing a Master of Science in Veterinary Forensics at the University of Florida. She then pursued her lifelong goal of becoming a veterinarian at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, where she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
Dr. Burger’s unique journey—from kennel assistant to veterinarian within the Riverside family—gives her a deep understanding of every aspect of patient care and the client experience. She is passionate about building lasting relationships with pet owners and providing compassionate, individualized care to every patient she sees.
Her professional interests include dentistry, internal medicine, and diagnostic imaging. She enjoys the challenge of solving complex medical cases and helping pets achieve their best quality of life through preventive care, advanced diagnostics, and tailored treatment plans.
When she is not at the clinic, Dr. Burger enjoys spending time with her husband and their beloved dog, Brie. She is thrilled to continue serving the community she has called home for so many years and looks forward to caring for generations of pets and their families.
Our Staff
Christina A.
Christina has been working at Riverside Veterinary Clinic since graduating from Blue Ridge Community College in 2006 with Associate of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology. She started at our clinic as a Licensed Veterinary Technician and became the Practice Manager in 2010. Although Christina loved living in the Shenandoah Valley while attending school, she couldn’t wait to move back to the New River Valley where she was born and raised. From a very young age Christina had a passion and love for animals. When Christina is not at the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her husband and three children.
Megan V.
Megan started working here when she was still in high school as a devoted kennel member. After leaving for a few short years, she made her way back. Megan is a jack of all trades and can do almost any job we have here at the clinic. Megan shares her home with her husband, daughter, son, 4 dogs, 4 cats, a bird, lots of chickens, ducks, and fish. In her free time, Megan enjoys taking walks with her fur babies and spending time with her family.
Sarah S.
Sarah has been working at Riverside Veterinary Clinic since Spring of 2020 as a veterinary assistant. She is currently working on her degree to become a licensed veterinary technician. In her free time she loves to spend time with her daughter, husband and fur babies.
Sherry G.
Sherry joined our team in June of 2021, bringing 12 years of combined experience as a veterinary assistant in small and large animal practice. Sherry has two dogs, 8 cats, two turtles and a duck! She has a passion for rescue and has helped rehome hundreds of kittens. During her free time she enjoys reading, painting, drawing and crafting.
Heather H.
Heather started working at Riverside in October of 2022 as a receptionist to help you and your furry friends. Heather has always felt a connection to animals and felt that working at a veterinary clinic would be the perfect way to give back to one of her passions.
Beth B.
Beth originally began working at Riverside Veterinary clinic in 2013. After a short break, Beth came back to us in 2021 and picked up right where she left! When she is not helping you with your fur baby’s needs she is spending time with her 3 sons and her pack of hounds on the mountain.
Rylee A.
Rylee started working at Riverside in September of 2022, but has been a part of the Riverside family as long as she can remember as her mom is our Practice Manager! Rylee is a smiling face at our front desk and also assists with office duties. Her career goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner and work in trauma. When Rylee is not assisting you with your pet’s needs, she is home with her dogs or spending time with her family.
Brittany F.
Brittany began working at Riverside originally in February of 2021, took a short break, and returned to us in the Spring of 2022. She aspires to become a Veterinarian. When Brittany is not working in our treatment room she is studying, playing with her dogs, or going to the gym.
